Caps Becomes First Western Player Inducted Into League of Legends Hall of Legends

Updated September 2026

Rasmus “Caps” Winther has made League of Legends history. The longtime G2 Esports mid laner has been selected as the 2026 Hall of Legends inductee, becoming the first Western professional player to receive League of Legends’ highest individual esports honor.

Caps joins Faker and Uzi in the Hall of Legends, which Riot Games created to recognize players who have left a lasting mark on League of Legends esports. His induction celebrates a career that has helped define European League of Legends and produced some of the strongest international performances ever achieved by a Western player.

Caps’ Road to the Hall of Legends

Caps’ rise to the top of professional League of Legends has been closely tied to Europe’s greatest international successes. After establishing himself as one of the region’s premier mid laners, he reached back-to-back World Championship finals with Fnatic in 2018 and G2 Esports in 2019.

His 2019 season with G2 became one of the defining moments in Western League history. G2 won the Mid-Season Invitational, captured both European splits, and reached the World Championship final, coming within one series of completing a historic Grand Slam.

Over the years, Caps has remained one of Europe’s most accomplished players, collecting numerous domestic championships while repeatedly representing the region on the international stage.

Why Caps Was Selected

Riot’s Hall of Legends recognizes players whose careers have had a lasting impact on League of Legends esports, and Caps’ résumé makes him a natural choice.

Beyond his domestic titles, Caps helped prove that European teams could legitimately challenge the world’s strongest regions. His aggressive playmaking, versatility, and willingness to take risks became defining parts of his style, while his longevity has kept him near the top of European competition across multiple eras of the game.

His induction is also significant for Western League of Legends as a whole. With Caps becoming the first Western player inducted, one of Europe’s most successful careers now has a permanent place alongside the game’s other legendary competitors.

Caps Joins Faker and Uzi

Caps becomes the third player inducted into the Hall of Legends, following Faker, the inaugural inductee in 2024, and Uzi, who received the honor in 2025.

The three players represent very different chapters of competitive League history. Faker became the defining figure of Korean and global League of Legends, Uzi established himself as one of China’s most iconic ADC players, and Caps has now become the first representative of the Western professional scene.

For European fans in particular, Caps’ inclusion is a major milestone. It recognizes not only his individual achievements, but also the period in which European teams came closest to breaking the long-running dominance of Korea and China on League’s biggest international stages.

Hall of Legends 2026 Event

Riot will celebrate Caps’ induction with the Hall of Legends 2026 event, giving players an opportunity to celebrate his career inside League of Legends as well as through esports content surrounding the induction.

The event is scheduled to begin September 10, 2026 and will include Caps-themed Hall of Legends content. Riot is also highlighting key moments from his career as part of the celebration.

For longtime European League fans, the event represents more than another in-game celebration. Caps has been at the center of many of the region’s biggest international moments, and his Hall of Legends induction formally recognizes that legacy.

A Milestone for European League of Legends

Caps becoming the first Western Hall of Legends inductee is a fitting milestone for a player who has spent much of his career carrying Europe’s hopes on the international stage.

There will inevitably be debate over which Western player deserves to join him next, but Caps has built a résumé that is difficult to match. From domestic dominance to an MSI championship and two World Championship final appearances, his career has already secured a unique place in League of Legends history.

Now it is official: Caps is a Hall of Legend.
